When any files gets deleted accidentally from your Linux installed system, you have the probable chances to recover them using tools available in Linux repositories like as Test Disk or PhotoRec until the space occupied by the deleted files is overwritten by others. So, one thing should be noted here that after deletion do not overwrite the space. So, to accomplish the task of Linux undelete files, go through the below steps so as to recover fat formatted files.
- First of all, open the Linux package manager and make a search for PhotoRec. Select and install it.
- Now open terminal and execute this command over it: sudo photorec.
- Make use of arrow keys to go to the drive where the deleted file was stored and press Enter
- Then after, select the Intel/PC partition option and move to the location of deleted file partition and press Enter.
- Go to the search option and select ‘Other’ option from the list of formats to choose the format of the file. Options available are ‘ext2/ext3’ to undelete linux ext3 or other. Opt for the other category as FAT formats come under this one.
- The next step is to choose the ‘Free’ option and press enter key. Choosing this option will recover only the deleted files from the partition. In case of drive corruption, it is better to go for the ‘Whole’ option as this will recover all the files from the partition.
- Go to the folder where you want to store the recovered files.
But these steps to undelete Linux files do not prove to be useful in all cases. So, in other case, it’s better to go for the Stellar Phoenix Linux data recovery software that is highly competent to recover all the files lost due to accidental deletion with minimal effort.
