Instructions to perform Exchange server recovery

Have you met any situation where you are unable to mount your database on an Exchange server? This happens when the EDB files get corrupted or in case if an anti virus deletes the Exchange server log file. So, in this situation, you have to do exchange server recovery in order to repair the edb files and make them mountable on server.

Assume a situation where you attempting to mount your database to the Microsoft Exchange server but you are receiving the following error message:

“An internal processing error has occurred. Try restarting the Exchange System Manager or the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service, or both.
ID no: c1041724
Exchange System Manager”

Cause:

This error relates to JET_errFileNotFound. It occurs in that Exchange log file which has a mismatching signature and LGeneration. Because of this you are not able to mount the database even though it is consistent.

Another reason can be when an anti-virus program deletes or interferes the current Exchange log file.

Resolution:

Before you go on for exchange server data recovery, make sure that the anti virus program is not configured to scan the exchange server files. Check out the log files to know whether the log files were deleted or quarantined.

In case of quarantined, go through the following steps:

  • The folder which contains production files must be recovered to log.

  • After that, MS Exchange Information store service is to be started. If the log files are not misplaced, mounting of database can be done. But if more files are missing then check in quarantine folder. Even you are unable to find then try the next step.

In case of deletion, follow the below steps:

  • Database those are unmounted; move them to the backup folder.
  • If new E00.log file is created, move it to the backup folder. In addition to this, also move E00.chk and copy the existing files
  • After that, rename last E00*.log file as E00.log
  • Lastly, restore the database from updated backup.

But in absence of backup, you may use stellar Phoenix Exchange server recovery software that is capable enough to recover all the data from the inaccessible edb files. It performs exchange edb recovery easily and comprehensively.
